Summer with Yeasayer
Posted by adspeert | Filed under Uncategorized
Another quick TV-inspired post today as Entourage closed last night’s episode with a track by Yeasayer, who have been one of the more interesting listens of my summer. This reminded me that Pitchfork.com had posted one of their Pitchfork Festival performances, and so I just went back to check it out. Aside from the fact that lead-man Chris Keating looks like Emilio Estevez from Men At Work, it was definitely one of the most dynamic performances of the festival. So check it out below, and below that is the song featured in the show.
Yeasayer - Wait for the Summer (Live at Pitchfork Festival ‘09)
The smoky soul of Mad Men

One of Mad Men’s greatest strengths as a drama is its ability to use its endings to give you a good slap in the face. And as you sit there stunned by the impact, the music creeps and makes it sting a little sweeter. I was watching an old episode from season 2 this weekend, and came across the gem below. I won’t get into describing the scene here, but I think this track is a good example of the fact that the show does a good job of capturing the age in all it’s sad and smoky glory.

It’ll be 5 o’clock somewhere.

Dust off your highballs for the return of Mad Men, which is kicking off its third season this Sunday, thankfully, despite an off-season contractual limbo between AMC and the show’s creator. Rumor has it that they’ll be airing the premier on the jumbotron in Times Square, but I’ll be perfectly happy to enjoy it from my couch with an old-fashioned in hand.
Below is the seldom-heard Aceyalone version of the theme track “A Beautiful Mine”. Cheers.
